As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, many of us begin to prepare spiritually, emotionally, and physically for this blessed time. It’s a time for reflection, self-discipline, and deepening our connection with our faith. But it’s also important to recognise the toll that fasting can take on our bodies and how we can maintain our health and beauty throughout this month.

As Fade Out’s Beauty Ambassador, I always encourage a balanced approach to skincare and wellness. This year, I’m focusing on the essential steps I take to stay hydrated, healthy, and glowing in the lead-up to Eid, so I can fully embrace the joy and celebration of the occasion.

Here are some of my personal tips for staying healthy throughout Ramadan:

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

The most crucial tip I can offer during Ramadan is to prioritise hydration. Fasting from dawn to sunset means no water, which can quickly lead to dehydration if we aren’t careful. I make sure to drink plenty of water during the non-fasting hours, especially between Iftar and Suhoor, when my body is able to rehydrate.

I aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day. You may also want to add in some herbal teas or coconut water, both of which help replenish essential electrolytes. I find that staying hydrated not only helps my energy levels, but it also keeps my skin glowing, fresh, and radiant—something I really appreciate as I prepare for Eid.

2. Eat Balanced and Nourishing Meals

Eating a well-balanced meal during Iftar and Suhoor is key to maintaining my health during Ramadan. I try to include a combination of complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, healthy fats, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. This ensures that I have sustained energy throughout the day and can avoid feeling sluggish.

For Suhoor, I often opt for slow-digesting foods like oats, wholegrain bread, and eggs. These keep me feeling fuller for longer, which is especially important as I won’t be eating again until Iftar. For Iftar, I love incorporating dishes rich in vitamins and minerals, such as salads, grilled fish, and lentil soups. Not only do these meals nourish my body, but they also help with digestion and leave my skin looking radiant.

3. Incorporating Skin-Friendly Foods

As a beauty ambassador, my skincare routine is very important to me, but so is the way I fuel my body from within. To keep my skin glowing, I include skin-loving foods in my meals that are packed with antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. These help to reduce inflammation, support my skin’s barrier function, and provide a healthy, natural glow.

I make sure to include a variety of fruits, such as berries, papaya, and watermelon, which are packed with vitamins A, C, and E. I also love adding walnuts, chia seeds, and avocado into my meals, all of which promote healthy, supple skin.

4. Staying Active (Even If It’s Just a Little)

I know it’s tempting to skip exercise during Ramadan, especially when fasting, but staying active—even in small doses—can make a huge difference in both how I feel and how my body looks. I aim for light exercise, like walking, stretching, or gentle yoga, which helps boost circulation and keep my metabolism working efficiently. Plus, it helps to combat fatigue and stress.

I typically go for a short walk after Iftar or engage in a few gentle stretches before bed to keep my body moving without feeling too fatigued. The endorphins released from light exercise also help me manage any stress during the month.

5. Taking Care of My Skin

Maintaining a healthy skincare routine during Ramadan is important, and I’ve found that it’s especially important to focus on hydration. I stick to a simple routine that involves a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum, and a nourishing moisturiser. After a long day of fasting, my skin can become dry, so I love using a moisturiser with ingredients like hyaluronic acid found in the Anti-Wrinkle regime or my personal favourite Collagen, found in the Collagen Boost routine, which draws moisture into the skin and keeps it plump and hydrated.

As part of my Ramadan routine, I make sure to exfoliate gently once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and allow my products to absorb more effectively. At night, I apply a rich night cream to help my skin rejuvenate while I sleep.

6. Mental and Emotional Wellbeing

Ramadan isn’t just about physical health—it’s also a time for inner reflection and spiritual growth. I always make sure to take time out each day to connect with my faith and practice mindfulness. Whether it’s through prayer, journaling, or spending quiet time with family, mental wellbeing plays a significant role in how we feel during Ramadan.

Taking care of my emotional health helps me stay grounded and centred, which in turn has a positive impact on my physical appearance. Stress can wreak havoc on our skin, so focusing on gratitude and peace is just as important as staying hydrated and eating nourishing foods.

As we near the end of Ramadan and approach the festive celebrations of Eid, I like to start my preparations early. This includes taking care of my skin, hair, and overall wellbeing so I can enjoy the day to the fullest. I indulge in a calming facial treatment, ensuring that my skin is nourished and glowing. I also take time to pamper myself with a relaxing bath and a bit of self-care before the hustle and bustle of the festivities begin.

Eid is a time of joy and celebration, and I believe it’s important to look and feel your best. By staying hydrated, nourishing my body with healthy foods, and practicing self-care, I’m able to celebrate with a renewed sense of vitality and radiance.

Wishing you all a blessed and healthy Ramadan, and may you have a beautiful and radiant Eid!
